ROBOT ? ASSISTED FOR RECTAL CANCER: SHORT-TERM OUTCOMES OF THE DA VINCI XI IN VIETNAM NATIONAL CANCER HOSPITAL

Background: Robotic laparoscopic surgery for the treatment of rectal cancer is the most advanced step in the field of minimally invasive surgery in recent years to overcome the limitations of conventional laparoscopic surgery. The Da Vinci Xi Robot is the most advanced and modern robot in the world. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the short – term outcomes of Da Vinci Xi robotic laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer treatment at Vietnam National Cancer Hospital (the first study on Da Vinci Xi Robot in Vietnam). Methods: The prospective descriptive study from September 2019 to January 2020. The first consecutive 22 rectal cancer patient underwent low anterior resection and Abdominoperineal resection by single surgeon with da Vinci Xi. We estimate short – term surgical outcome. Results: 11 male, 11 female patient with average age 58.30 ± 8.9 years. 16 patients was at stage II and 6 patients was at stage III. The number of patients suffered from low rectal cancer, middle rectal cancer; upper rectal cancer was 2, 6 and 14 patiens, respectively. There are 02 type of operation: 2 abdominoperineal resection and 22 low anterior resection. Operative time was 149.5 ± 29.9 minutes. Lymph node was harvested 15.6 ± 3.5. Blood loss 15.4 ± 2.7 ml. Returning of bowel function was 2.5±1.3 days. Time of urinary sonde was 1.01± 0.6 days without urinary retention. Postoperative hospital stay was 6.5± 0.5 days. There was no patient open conversions, but one patient postoperative complications was wound infection. Distal margin was 6.2± 1.2 cm. Conclusion: The short – term outcomes of the da Vinci Xi for rectal cancer in Vietnam National Cancer Hospital was the evidence that safety and feasibility.
